FAQs

Will clients lose control during hypnosis?

No. This is one of the most common questions people ask.

Hypnosis is a natural state of deep relaxation and focused attention. Throughout the session, clients remain aware of what is happening and stay in control at all times. They cannot be made to do or say anything against their wishes and can choose to end the hypnotic state whenever they want.

Most clients describe hypnosis as a deeply relaxing and enjoyable experience.

Should clients stop taking their medication?

No. Hypnotherapy is designed to complement existing medical care, not replace it.

Clients should continue taking any prescribed medication exactly as advised by their GP or healthcare professional. If symptoms improve, any decision to reduce or stop medication should only be made in consultation with the prescribing clinician.

Can sessions be delivered online?

Yes. Crossroads Hypnotherapy offers both face-to-face and online sessions.

Many clients find online Solution Focused Hypnotherapy to be just as effective as attending in person. All that is needed is a quiet, comfortable space, free from distractions, and a reliable internet connection.

Whether sessions are delivered online or in person, clients receive the same supportive and personalised approach.

Is Solution Focused Hypnotherapy evidence-based?

What if someone thinks they can't be hypnotised?

Yes. Solution Focused Hypnotherapy combines clinical hypnosis with principles from solution-focused therapy, positive psychology and neuroscience.

There is a growing body of research supporting the use of hypnotherapy for a range of conditions, including anxiety, stress and some Disorders of Gut–Brain Interaction, such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). It is recognised as a helpful treatment option for some people when used alongside appropriate medical care.

As with all healthcare approaches, the strength of the evidence varies depending on the condition being treated. At Crossroads Hypnotherapy, each treatment plan is tailored to the individual, with the aim of helping clients achieve their personal goals and improve their overall wellbeing.

How many sessions will be needed?

The number of sessions varies depending on each client's goals and the issues they would like support with.

During the initial consultation, Liz will discuss the client's individual needs and recommend a personalised treatment plan. Many clients notice positive changes within a relatively short period, although everyone's journey is different.

Will clients remember what happens during hypnosis?

Yes. Most clients remember the session clearly.

Hypnosis is not the same as being asleep or unconscious. Many people describe it as similar to becoming deeply absorbed in a good book, a film or a piece of music—relaxed, comfortable and fully aware throughout.

Almost everyone can experience hypnosis if they are willing to engage with the process.

Hypnosis is a natural state that people move in and out of during everyday life, such as when daydreaming or becoming completely absorbed in an activity. Liz gently guides clients into this relaxed state, making the experience comfortable and enjoyable.

What happens during the first appointment?

The initial consultation is an opportunity for clients to discuss the changes they would like to make and learn more about Solution Focused Hypnotherapy.

Liz explains how the brain responds to stress, how hypnotherapy works, and answers any questions. Together, they agree on a personalised plan to help the client move towards their goals with confidence.
